Double lips, machine damage 1 & 9 with a die chip divided on the 1, die wear dissolving the D south. So why don't we see the Machine Doubling on the 5 & 8?

MD can be very narrowed on a coin and only affect a small area and not the rest of the coin. Coop can tell you more.

Sometimes it affects just the mint mark. Probably during ejection it was bumped because sometimes it is the tallest device. Depending how deeply into the die it punched.

Just found another coin just like the above but this one has a more distinctive "line" coming down below the D...opinions?

Looks like a fading die gouge. To wide to be a die scratch. In the fields the die flattens scratches/gouges/polishing until they are seen on the area near or inside the devices.

Also more machine damage on the date.
