Right now, my oldest proof is from the "space age" era ... I normally don't buy slabbed coins, but I assume when investing in early proofs, that's the only way to go, considering the plethora of knock offs that must be floating over from mainland China. Also, how easy is it for experts to carefully polish a well-struck authentic business strike coin to make it look like an original proof? Report this Post to the Staff

barryg Pillar of the Community United States 5849 Posts	Posted 08/24/2014 1:40 pm Well, if you guys are interested (and haven't already seen these in another thread), here are some of my other proofs. Due to how much they cost, I try to only by certified ("slabbed") examples so I know they are genuine and not altered in any way. Unfortunately, I've always had a really hard time photographing proof coins (especially in slabs) so the pictures never look as good as they do in hand. One of these days, btw, I hope to acquire a nice proof Barber half dollar. I almost got one instead of the two Seated Liberty coins I just picked up, but the pictures of the ones I saw in the same price range just didn't inspire me the way the Seated Liberty coins did.
