As I mentioned before, I sold a coin on ebay and USPS lost it. I filled out the form to try and recover it. Has anyone had an issue with USPS losing your coin you sold and did had them recover it? I am also reading issues with people who used USPS priority mail express and had the post office lose it and they gave them issues with payouts since there is a clause in the handbook stating the max insurance payout on coins and bullion is $15 even though elsewhere in the handbook it states coins with collector's value are insurable. Has anyone had USPS lose their coin and give them the run around about an insurance payout? I am reading horror stories of people sending multiple coin to a TPG or sold a $2000 proof gold buffalo, have the post office lose it, and have their insurance denied, then were given a payout later of $15.

Can't answer any of your questions, but I'm anxious to hear from those who can.

Had a fairly valuable package disappear en route, tracking had showed in leaving a sort facility then nothing else, filed a whole bunch of paperwork I got from my local postmaster with postal inspectors, all of the sudden, a month after it had disappeared from the system, it showed up... Can't comment on the insurance issues since I have never had anything go that far...

I have never dealt with this issue but have read where it is next to impossible to receive a claim of the insurance that was bought. It sounds like an insurance scam to me.I wonder how the USPS and the post office has gotten away with this kinda stuff for so many years? John1

We file insurance claims with USPS and generally not a problem. But not coins themselves so that certainly is where the issue is. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I sent an very, VERY valuable stamp (cataloged at 4+k) once to a certifier 1 state away. Previous ones, I had sent arrived in a day or two. This one took a month to get to him. It also had "disappeared" for awhile. Was shown arriving at the baltimore sort facility. took 3 weeks to leave that facility. A lot of phone calls to the local postmaster, and thankfully, she, being a very nice person, followed up with it and kept following up.
Thank goodness I had a tracking number (and insurance). She thought there might be someone at that sort facility who was "Putting things aside, for later retrieval" apparently this thing had happened before with coins and stamps.

I once had an experience, I was receiver and I reported to the USPS that the insured package was not received. It was like a 45 day investigation -- I actually ultimately found it embedded in a bunch of junk mail. The USPS did not require a signature, and in the long run they should have been glad I was honest and reported that I found it.

USPS is the only place where they get away with charging for a service, them not providing the service, and charge you anyhow. Of course most services you pay after it was performed. Fortunately places like ebay have buyer protection but they have no seller protection. If USPS loses your coin, you are responsible to refund the buyer and if you don't they will refund them on your behalf and take it from you. They say they have seller protection, but it doesn't amount to much of anything.
