His full name was Gordon Arthur Andrews. To the best of my knowledge, his signature or initials do not appear on any of the notes he designed (he designed all the paper notes except for the paper $100).

The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney houses his collection, including artists proofs and early concept sketches for the notes. Museum catalogue page. Other material of his is held in the Note Printing Australia archives.

I think, if they're initials, then he wasn't very successful in advertising himself. I read "GOP", if anything, not "GAA". But I'd really need to see closeups of his other (non-banknote) work to know how he actually signed stuff. I'd also want to see the photo (or whatever) that he used to copy from, to see if the feature is visible in what the Queen was actually wearing that day.

Sounds right. Looks like I was wrong about his initials not appearing on the notes. I'd assume his signature - his "discreet" one, anyway - would always look like that or at least closely resemble that: just "GA", in clear, identifiable letters. Which does rule out the "GOP" on the necklace.
