Hey there everyone, I have found this 2009 canadian penny missing it's plating, I am unsure if there are others known, or if it is a PMD. Please any opinions welcome. Thanks and here is the link...

there is certainly no consistent lighting in any of the pictures. almost like they don't really want you to get a good look at the coin. based on what I see I would say PMD

Looks like someone blasted the plating away with a glassbeader or sandblaster.

well you got some feedback. lol. you should try to at least light all of the coins equally so you can easily compare the different coins and their finishes. don't use a flash and try to improve the natural lighting with a couple of lamps or something.

The surface (texture) is not right, even zinc coins from Europe in World War 2 have smooth surfaces on the fields. That is either a cast copy, or the copper plating has been removed by any number of different methods... those "tiny pits" you speak of, are not from corrosion (you would see white zinc oxide on the coin).

I was curious enough, and the price was cheap enough, that I bought it... I'll let everyone know what a thorough inspection reveals...

Oh - don't worry about returns. If it is a manipulated coin (e.g., removed plating), I have a friend here in Ottawa who collects "garage-job" errors and I will pass it along to him. He uses these man-made errors as a teaching tool to inform dealers and collectors.

Hey there spp, I sent your coin just the other day so it should arrive shortly, thats neat to hear about your friend in ottawa in which collects those garage jobers. I have 3 fake clipped canadian 1 cent coins in which I have found in a penny roll from the bank, they tricked me at first and then I realized there was no blakesely or faing of details on the obverse. But it is cleverly done. Please let me know if he is interested in them!

Have a great day everyone, and thanks for looking!

I am sure he would be - but he won't offer very much for them...

Just a follow-up on this coin. It is a 2009 CPZ cent, with the copper plating removed, by dissolution of some sort. It is underweight, and the entire coin (fields, devices and rim) are pitted.
