I always enjoy looking into my Canadian collection and finding possible errors. This coin struck my interest b/c of the O over I in Province. Lately I have been on a Canadian buying spree and hope to post some interesting errors. Hopefully some will enjoy

Are you showing 2 different tokens, or both sides of the same one? I am not an expert on these, however one side says deux sous, and the other says 1 penny. It would be odd that the bank would put 2 different monies on the same coin/token. (sous is an old French coin)

why would one side say 2 sous, while the other says 1 penny? Was there a fluctuation in currency back in the 19th century? Seems like there is some historical information I don't know about early banking/monies of my own country.

The error you mention is cool, and something we don't see often on Canadian coinage.

Thanks for your response ace. A sous is actually a Half Penny so Deux Sous is a whole Penny. As for the error yes I thought it was cool b/c I don't see signs of rotation elsewhere on the coin. I'd be interested to hear from someone how this might occur

I have read before that the earlier north American minting processes had movable letters/numbers (?) I am sure I read somewhere that this kind of error happened because in this case the 0 somehow got onto the die right before it was struck.

I might be talking out my second mouth but I am sure that's what I read. Thanks for the explanation.
