As a collector, things like the following wanna make me ; post your funny money ebay listings too and let's see what we can make from them.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wheat-Penny...em2ed3830d29

"You will receive one circulated roll of 1940-1958 Wheat cent unsearched by me. I bought a huge lot of Wheat cent and we went through them only pulling out 30s and earlier."

definition of "we": used by a speaker to refer to himself/herself AND one or more other people considered together.

So he searched them and didn't search them...
...makes perfect......sense?

Also...

...and let me guess; the seller just wanted to make sure the insides of the paper rolls were clean for me. What a swell guy!

These are the types of Sellers that ebay is trying to get rid of.

ebay gives them enough rope so they will eventually hang themselves. Enough low FB DSR's and SNAD returns and they will be gone.

C'mon, people, where is your faith?

Clearly, the person who opened the coin box was blindfolded. They then passed the coins to their colleagues sitting nearby, who all had their vision sufficiently impaired that all they could make out were the dates. Don't ask me how they did that, maybe they wore each other's glasses, or something.

I can imagine the conversation now...

Quote:
Martha: Hey, look, it's one of those 1955 double-die things...

Jimbo: Martha! What are you doing?!? We're not supposed to be searching these coins!

Martha: But Jimbo, this one is so obvious, even with these glasses I can tell...

Jimbo: I don't care! We promised those people a roll of unsearched coins, and we're NOT going to search them! Now toss that coin back in the pile and go find your father's reading glasses - your eyesight's still too good!

These people must have gone to considerable trouble - and endured no small amount of sacrifice - just to bring you a roll of coins that is guaranteed to be both unsearched and contain nothing but 1940-1958 wheats. The least you could do is believe them...

They're just a scam. You get lots of verdigris and badly damaged coins, 70% garbage. Buy a single good grade coin and you'll do better as far as investment is concerned. I can buy 12 common wheats for a dollar Canadian each at my local LCS. this goes for all the "unsearched" roll sellers on ebay, IHP's etc, all common date junk. Even if you're trying to build a collection for the first time, at least buy what you can see in person.

I would have happily taken the coins I got even in AG or G in grade. But these were totally green, acetone wouldn't even touch them. But damaged coins that look like they met a vice and anvil with a hammer? I would never have sold that kind of quality without the buyer agreeing in person.

Shame on those sellers. IMO.

Yes I realize that they are scams. No doubt there are some genuine unsearched rolls out there SOMEWHERE, but the ones on ebay are just plain silly (hence the joke about the cleaning of the inside of the roll, which I thought was pretty genuious myself )

99.9% of wheats have been searched, if not by the person wrapping, then by the thousands of people before them. Keep in mind the "youngest" Wheat cent is over 50 years old.
