Coin That Fooled Me At First Glance

Some attribution of ancient often relies on that first glance "aha.........." When I first picked up this coin I said "aha! Byzantine" The planchet, the symbolism, the subject matter, all at first glance pointed to Byzantine. However, the coin in this image is actually from a Cruader state, Messina.

More precisely, the coin is a Doppio follaro bronze, roughly 17mm in size. One side depicts Ruggero in long robe, the other side depicts Christ enthroned.

It is influenced by the Byzantine style probably due to contact with the empire and it's use in the region. Interesting coin.
