This coin from Greek Syracuse has always been one of my favorites. I have struggled to get a picture that best portrays the high relief, design, and patina details.
But I have now developed a new technique using focus-stacking with good results.

Litra from Syracuse, under Agathokles, circa 295 BC. Head of Artemis right, quiver over shoulder. Reverse, Winged thunderbolt, AGAQOKLEOS above, BASILEOS (king) below, 24mm 9.58 gr

Thanks! I have fun shooting these ancients--there's so much potential for dramatic shots.

Very nicely done! I've been debating whether to try this. What focus stacking software are you using?

I'm going to give focus stacking a try today using Helicon's software. I'll post the results here :)

I've been having quite a bit of trouble trying to take pictures with good focus, so maybe this will help. I'd rather not have to go through all of the extra work but if it results in better pictures, I'm willing.

I'm using Zerene Stacker to compile my shots into a single photo.
The slowest part of the whole process is manually adjusting the focus increment to each step.
But soon I'll have some tethering software which will do the focusing steps for me.
Looking forward to seeing your results!

Hit a roadblock with purchasing the software (Helicon). They have to call me to confirm but I have no cell signal. I replied to their email regarding this, explained, and requested that they text me at that number. They didn't respond. So much for using the long weekend to play with stacking :/

For now, you could always download the demo version of Zerene Stacker It's fully functional for 30 days.
