I was thinking of using the Silver Five Star General Commemorative to fill the final hole in my Dansco, then I saw this at a local antique shop for $4. Any ideas about what it is? Google came back with nothing! Thoughts?

So far I have found out the place that postmarked it was where the stamps were released in 1969. Maybe has something to do with that and it being a first day issue stamp.

still looking for more to find out what the "coin" is, since I can't find it under coin or medallion. maybe trying token will work. The thing has no face value, so no idea what it could be worth if it is the first day issue of the stamp to a stamp collector.

was there no writing on the back where the E PLURIBUS UNUM is?

I have found LOTS of variations on this first day issue, but none exactly like the one you have! Any markings on it as to whom manufactured this set? Might help find more info. Seems to have been a popular first day issue stamp, and looks like there were lots of different offerings made for that release.

That is pretty cool! I would leave it intact, expect that plastic looks like PVC.

Here are some more photos. It appears to have some sort of COA.Also, it was a tad too large for the Dansco hole so I had to bore it out a little.

Nice find, looks good.....any plans for your other spots? I used a 1990 Marshall Islands Eisenhower Centennial coin to fill a hole in my Dansco. Here is the thread if you want to check it out. https://goccf.com/t/184860 There is a 2002 West Point Commem too.

I've got a 1972 type 2 coming to fill the last spot. The other Ike's in the blank spots in the picture above is a 1972 type 3 and the 1990 commemorative and that cool medal.

It looks like it was a tight fit. Was it? How does the thickness compare?

It is a bit thicker, probably 20-25% thicker, but the slides still went in place without issue. Another thing, it was a tad bit larger in diameter. I had to perform surgery on the Dansco page hole to get it to fit!

All in all I think it looks great! I just filled the rest of the holes, so I'll take some pictures and upload them soon!
