Note the fields on your coin. It is show heavy flow lines on that area. So the die is getting worn out. Probably in the LDS/VLDS die state at the time your coin was struck. Because of the die wear, all devices that face the rim will be showing wear. The nickel content of the planchets/ the extra thickness cause the steel dies to show wear a lot faster than other denominations. Copper/zinc cents are easier on the dies. But the 25% nickel makes these planchets harder to strike.
