Just thought I'd share a couple pretty nice scores I had this weekend. The joy of cherrypicking Notice the brick like textile pattern on liberty cheek? What we in the masonry business call a running bond pattern. Oh yea and the Shield nickel is pretty bad to the bone too!! What say you?

Nice pickups! The toning pattern on the Morgan is caused by one of the sides of the coin coming into contact with the bags the Mint used to store coins. That Shield proof looks sharp as well.

Wow those are some eye catching coins! Can't go wrong with rarity\beauty and a bag toned Morgan. Looks like the answer to one of those $500 threads you see all the time on here.

From what I've seen the V nickel is the least expensive of those followed by the Shield nickel. A proof Seated quarter or half is gonna be an expensive one id imagine although I've never been in the market for one. Makes one wonder why you don't see more early proofs posted on here. The rarity and price of them don't really coincide w each other IMO. I acquired a proof 3cn awhile back and the pcgs pop report was like 64 at the time and I paid like $300. Find another early coin that rare for that price. Maybe its because they don't include proof holes for every date in the popular albums and folders?

Let me explain cherry picking for the OP. It does NOT hafta be a variety or rare VAM to be considered a cherry pick! You could simply find a coin eligible for an upgrade. Heck you can throw the greysheet out the window on some coins if they are THAT nice! You could ALSO cherry pick a coin with REALLY nice bag toning. I've seen coins like that start at $500 and go up^. That's what some people refer to when cherry picking. I guess as an old ugly circ barber collector you wouldn't understand. Ka-chorkle

Welcome to the CCF, "2 sides"!" Those look like quality coins. Is the Morgan a "toner?"

Thx guys. Exo- the Morgan IS a toner for sure. More specifically a BAG toner. The pics don't do these coins justice AT ALL. Even the back of the Morgan has crescent toning. I wish my photography skills were better so you could see how vivid the color on that Morgan is!!

IDK about you guys but coins IMO are pieces of art. This particular Morgan looks like there's a brick wall painted right into the background. The coin literally jumped out of the dealers case. I was shocked he wanted less than $100 for it as I couldn't fish the $ out fast enough

2 sides ... I share your frustration with the coin photography. I'm not good at it, myself. Sadly, better pics accentuate the "art" angle for coins.

Nice, 2 sides, but being a Philadelphian, I prefer a Flemish bond.
