Lincoln is my favorite prez, but isn't it time to change the obverse to something else? Reagan? A flag?

You gotta go through Congress to do that, and it's very unlikely that any Congressman/woman wants to be remembered as the person who took Honest Abe off the penny.

It is actually time to quit minting the cent for circulation. Actually, it has been that time for more than a few years.

I do support its continued minting for collectors (mint sets, proof sets, and even rolls), at a premium (of course) and only in bronze (95% copper).

All of that being said, I see no reason to take Lincoln off the cent, unless we remove all of the dead people and return to Liberty.

With the exception of the dollar coin, I think all of our currency is "locked" to its current dead president 'til kingdom come. The founding fathers (Washington and Jefferson) probably won't move for anything, and neither will Lincoln. Roosevelt might eventually get replaced once the last people who remember him start to pass away--I heard rumors that Reagan might eventually be featured on the dime, but that was right after he died. Kennedy probably would get replaced if the half wasn't frozen as a NIFC denomination.

Barring an assassination, I don't think the current lineup of dead white guys is going anywhere.

I can imagine the uproar if someone Congress started the process to remove Lincoln. Who do you want on it? Robert E Lee? Pretty sure Lincoln isn't going anywhere until the penny is no more.

I'm so tired of presidents being on our coins. I wish we could go back to some abstract artistic version of liberty.
