A while ago my grandma gave me an ancient coin she bought on a whim, can anybody tell me anything about its authenticity? And if it is real can you provide an ID? Thanks guys!

I can't say much about the authenticity (although nothing jumps out as alarming on it) but it is Byzantine. It's an anonymous follis, but I'm no good at telling the difference to tell you when it was made. I'm sure someone will be along soon that can though.

Don't have any measuring tools on me, but the thickness is about equal to a quarter, diameter is about that of a half dollar. It weighs a little more than a half dollar, sorry for no specific measurements.

Your coins look legit and is a Byzantine Class A2 Anonymous Folles attributed to the regin of Basil II and Constantine VIII. Average weight is around 15 grams but they can go over 20 grams. They are struck on large flans up to 36mm. SB # 1813. However if your coin weighs from 9-10 grams and on a small flan it's a class A3 attributed to the sole regin of Constantine VIII. SB#1818.
