probably the same as colourized US State Quarters and such. Real coins made into artwork at a big price ! Junque!

Technically this would be illegal for defacing the coins, but I don't think the mint would care.

I wouldn't call it Junk...There is a market for everything. Agreeably the price might be high but the retail market will decide. People spend 50 bucks on fireplace trinkets, arts and crafts, pictures, paintings, etc... only to see them at a garage sale 2 years later at a buck. Price aside, I actually find them pretty cool.

I don't like the design. You can't even see the nice backgrounds; them darn leaves are in the way.

I found them interesting, but too small to make out any real detail. I'm seeing an explosion of post mint color enhanced coins. Many aren't an improvement, however, seems still to be popular. It seems tastes in coin collecting are starting to shift especially in Europe. Some enhancement do make the bullion coins more interesting. I do like the Color enhanced quarters, but I find them too expensive.

Mini bump. Does anyone know the private mint these came from. I agree the ebay resale price is through the roof, so direct mint purchase is as usual the way to go. Thanks for any information.

Cool looking but not my cup of tea. As to the legality there's nothing illegal about that.

It looks like this person simply went on Google and grabbed whatever image of the city and used them on the coins.
So yes technically illegal as they are infringing on someone's copyright.
I wonder what they would say if someone were to message them and asked them to cease and desist. lol
