I am confused on why there seems to be such a widegap in values for the Canadian gold coins ? for eg Trends has a 1914 $10 MS 64 @ $9000 but they can be purchased for way less graded by PCG and NGC, are they inferior in grading our coins compared to ICCS ?

Becasue these price guides were issued before the BOC Hoard was released, now populations for the coins are much higher, MS-63 prices have halved and I'm sure the higher the grade of the coin the more the price drops percentage wise. Makes sense, if there is only 15 MS-65's and 1 MS-66 in existence then all collectors are competing for that one coin, now after the Hoard there may be 32 MS-65's, 8 MS-66's and 2 MS-67's so now there is much less competition and those who do compete will pay much lower prices for a coin which is really not as rare anymore.

Trends is out of touch with the reality of Canadian coin collecting. Their pricing is based on ICCS graded examples. For BOC gold PCGS and NGC set the standard for price determination, there are almost 10,000 1914 $10 gold in PCGS holders.

I for one would not touch that hoard stuff at anywhere near trends. With the distribution and initial hype over, the market on Canadian 5 and 10 dollar golds ...................... melt and a bit! IMHO
