I was just wondering how many coins minted the same way will make it a Variety

Just to clarify, Is a die chip on the cent, a Cud involves the rim. I posted a picture of a Cud in another post.

Die chips do not constitute a variety. They are the result of a minor piece of the die breaking away and then that die striking coins.

To answer your question about a variety, based upon some definitions, 1 coin struck would constitute a variety.

Based on other definitions, If you mean a die variety then two coins would constitute a die variety as two coins struck by the same die of the same die variety would be needed to prove the die variety comes from a particular die or die pair.

As for variety coins, all coins made with the same die with a RPM/RPD/DD obverse or reverse would be a variety. Die cracks/chips/breaks/cuds/clashes/wrong planchets/clipped/off centers/broadstruck/type I & type II planchets are errors. Machine Doubling is a machine fault and not a variety or error that I save except for educational pieces.
