I am still learning the minutia of differences between Double Dies and Machine Doubling. Any thoughts on this one, I took a chance for $4.00!

It appears to be Machine Doubling to me, but wait and see what others say.
It's still a nice find.

It is Machine Doubling. You'll notice that the extra spread has a flat, shelf-like appearance, whereas a DDO has more body, as it is a part of the die itself.

Have you read this yet? It has some really good info on learning to identify the difference between MD and DDOs.

just to be "PC - politically correct", the term is actually doubled die (not double die". the dies have doubled engraving - causing the doubling appearance on the coin.
