Are these die breaks on either side of the 'S' in "PLURIBUS" and again above the second 'U' in "UNUM"? I got the coin as an "about uncirculated" example from Provident Metals a few years ago.

You might want to put this in the variety and error catagory here: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...FORUM_ID=137

Maybe a mod can step in and move this?

Need to see a close up of the area in question. Looks like PMD.
Rest in Peace

It looks like PMD to me, but yeah, a close up photo would certainly help.

Very unlikely to be die breaks - something that prominent would have been seen and documented before. That said, although I see what might be a little involvement in the S, the second you in UNUM kinda looks like it struck fully around the "problem." So the possibility of a planchet issue remains open in my mind, but it'd take some pretty serious detail images to clarify for sure.

Unfortunately I don't have a camera good enough for a closer picture. I do have a loupe, which I should have used before posting. The areas aren't elevated, so I guess they could be some form of damage. But I think it's weird that particularly for the one above the second you it seems to form around the devices instead of through them. And they run right up to the rim and stop.

Yeah, that's why I'm hesitant to pronounce it PMD without looking closer.
