Working on getting a dollar bill from every year and every series.
Wondering if anyone here has done the same?
Already have everything from 1935 onward (almost all from circulation in XF or better condition) minus the Hawaii and North Africa notes and a Barr note

Do you have the 1935-A experimental notes? For example, are you collecting all the 1935 through 1935-G silver certificates? I've been slowly getting there though. I'm only missing a few of the earliest large bills, which are the hardest to come by. The $1 type bill set is really the only realistic set to complete because once you get into the $2 bills and higher, things start to become pretty pricey.

Forgot about the experimental notes, will add those to the list. But yes, I'm collecting all years and series 1935 H is actually the final one in that series!
And I agree about things getting quite pricey once we move up from the $1
Going to work on the large notes once I finish all the smalls

I started a small-sized $1 collection a while back. I was trying to get all the series and all the Federal Reserves from each year. It's been on the "back burner" for about 2 years now ... but not forgotten. If you want a scare get a good catalog that lists ALL of the possibilities. That can be one VERY large collection.
I suggest the Standard Guide to Small-Size U.S. Paper Money/1928 to Date by John Schwartz & Scott Lindquist, Krause Publications.

Will check that out for sure kanga! After I finish this I'm thinking about doing the same collections with star notes, that one could lighten my pocket by a bit though lol

Yeah, 1935-H. It's been a long week. 1928A experimentals (XB, YB, and ZB blocks) are also a possibility for your 1928 series of notes.

How did you get the ones from 63 to the 80's? I've gotten some Barr's from circulation, and from the later 80's onward, but the late 60's and early 70's elude. Gotta think that'll bode well for the value of the notes in say 50 years, wouldn't it?
Also, the next question that comes to mind, specifically regarding your collection, will you be expanding the modern ones into notes produced for each Federal Reserve Bank, and from notes produced at DC and Forth Worth, and into the star notes, and the web notes and COPE and LEPE printings?
There are just too many!

Sounds like a fun collection, gill384! I typically keep any crisp $1 notes I come across and have some fun (for me) star notes and older notes such as silver certificates but nothing too substantial yet. I'm afraid if I get crazy about yet another collection, I'll be eating Ramen noodles by candlelight cross-legged on the floor of a furnitureless room surrounded by my collections. Ok, maybe that doesn't sound all that bad.

Groszy, everything from 65 onward I have gotten from circulation and they are all star notes (dad is a hoarder)
I don't think ill be expanding to each Fed Bank, that was just be too much lol
Celtic, Yeah, I keep anything and everything that is a star note or silver, actually keep anything from 1950 and prior.

A nice idea... I take every $1 bill. Signature variants, different print blocks, different seals, different styles ( wide backs and narrow backs ), Mule notes, Legal Tender notes, Nationals, Silver Certificates, Experimentals and also the different districts. I love them all... My oldest $1 bill is the Series 1862 with the signatures from Chittenden and Spinner, the newest $1 bills are the 12 districts from the 2009 Series. I think that I have approximately 200 different $1 bills. I know that is not much but I live in Europe, I prefer large Size bills and I think that I have more time to collect US Currency. :-)

Nice collections!
What I am working on, when I have the money: $1,$2,$5,$10 bills by block. $20,$50,$100 by series/printing facility.
All the notes are from circulation and worth face.. Essentially it's just a good way for me to force myself to save money until I really need it.

Quote: Barry your collections are so nice, your Dansco 7070 makes me drool Glad you like it! It's nothing compared to some I've seen from other members (all mint state, beautifully toned, etc.), but I'm happy with it. I still hope to upgrade a few of the coins as time and budget permits, but I no longer feel that I have to....

I was doing a $1 small set, but lately I've shifted my focus to the experimentals. I trying to put together a higher grade block set, complete with stars and known errors. I m about half way finished, I already have the rare Natick note, but still searching for a Gilbert note. Just something about those test printings.
