Indo-Greek coins...

Where the splendor of the Ancient Greeks meets the mystique of India...

The Indo-Greek Kingdom laid along the silk road. Politically and geographically separated from the Greek and Latin speakers of Europe all new types of coins were produced. Infused with Buddhist culture and eastern flair the Greek artisans made coins in all metals and many unlike others seen anywhere else in the world.

I encourage fellow members out there to contribute their Indo Greeks, post some pics up.

Menander I 165-130 BC. Converted to Buddhism and is mentioned in Buddhist texts for a dialog he had with a monk.

Here's my only Indo-Greek coin. I do love their aesthetics though and may expand my collection someday.
