I know when one finds a counterfeit coin on e-bay the faithful here get all up in arms and thump their chests in righteous indignation. But it seems that e-bay has a lot more to worry about than a few Chinese fakes...

100 listings? Doesn't sound like the sky is falling....yet. Anybody know how many listings ebay averages at any given point in time?

There are so many fakes around now that I think the US government may as well just have China do all our coins.

I don't know about you guys, but the idea that ebay allows one to write Javascript into an auction listing is about the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Since ebay deep-sixed their counterfeit coin people, that is.

It's been two years since I either bought or sold a coin on ebay.

I have to admit that I bought an obvious fake from ebay. I even e-mailed the seller to let him know that it was a fake. I probably paid a little to much for it but I wanted it anyway.

I have been a member of ebay since 2000, I have never had a problem with counterfeit coins or been scammed. It always surprises me when someone says they have had an issue, thats to bad.

What I love about ebay most are the ridiculous prices
was looking for a price comparison of an older german silver coin
and there was an about VG offered as RARE RARE RARE and US$129
while a VF one was offered at US$30

That you know of. Very possibly some coins may be fakes and you just don't know.

Am awaiting both the thick/thin 1925 Viking medals (recently purchased) to see what my local coin store has to tell me about them - (at least returns are accepted for them as well).
