What's going on here? I found one of these today and briefly searched for a match and explanation. (I do not collect dimes). There is another post on a different forum (2009) with no helpful answers, so now there are 2 of these. Curiosity is killing me....help.

No rpm's after 1990? Gouge?

There is a lot of die wear showing on the right side of the devices. But this must be machine damaged in this area on the left side. No RPMs after 1990 as the mint mark was added as part of the design that year.
