Hello everyone. I just received my 2014 Silver proof set today from the US mint. Very disappointed in the quality of some of the coins. There seems to be a spot or a nick in one of the silver quarters as well as a small pit on the opposite side. 1 of the dollar coins looks almost worn in some spots and shows like a tarnish on the other side. My question is, can I send the set back to the mint and have it exchanged for a better set? Edited by CollegeKevin 09/25/2014 2:59 pm

That dollar coin doesn't look very good... I would probably try to exchange.

Thats what I was thinking. The first thing I picked up on was to the left of the date on the silver quarter. That little burn mark looking thing. Then directly across from that by the rim and "UNUM" theres another spot. Really not happy with the quality of this set.

Yeah, not good quality which is strange. I don't see why they wouldn't let you exchange.

Agreed. I don't buy from the mint often but in the past when I did I never seen anything like this. Disappointing really. Well its in the mail on its way back. Hopefully this will be an easy process.

I wish you the best, I'm sure it will be a fairly easy process. Glad you'll be getting a nicer set!

The silver quarters had weird striations on the face of GW in the silver sets I received as part of a subscription order. Didn't bother to return as the reverses were just fine. Bloggers on another site commented on how bad the quality of the silver proof sets were this year and made a ton of returns, so the Mint is aware of the off quality of the silver proofs this year. Generally, the SF mint is really good with their quality control so don't know what happened, if the production schedule got impacted by more coins this year than usual. Ironically, the silver quarters set in January was uniformly superb.
