I am feeling a little embarrassed right now, anyways I bought a 1955 poormans DDO, wait before you say those are not real and are a wast of money, there are some nice DDO-002 especially in a EDS. Anyways here is the auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...270149122095 Well it came shipped in a square air tight and had glue on it so I really could not see it, I have been real busy at work, I left feedback and put it away. Now today I finally had time to photograph my recent purchases and this is what I got- I feel a little mad, mostly at myself. I sent a very nice email explaining my situation, what do you guys think? I know I should have looked at it more closely and broke it out of the airtight. I was really excited about this coin, EDS are rare and thought I got a good deal. If I have to chalk this up as a lesson learned then I am ok with it, if you think I have some ground to stand on to get my paypal refunded then let me know.

I'm 100% sure you didn't get the coin you bid on, IMHO. The ebay coin has none of the facial dings your coin has. And most importantly, your coin has none of the doubling of the ebay coin. I have a free plug-in program on my Firefox browser that, when you right click on a photo & turn the mouse wheel, enlarges the picture tremendously. It's definitely two different coins, IMHO! Follow Metalman's advice & complain loudly to ebay & Paypal.

Well he sent me a reply saying he uses high resolution lighting, a 10MP camera, and some other stuff. I emailed him a very high resolution photo and let him know the reason I bought it was to photograph it.

Have you tried photoshoping his auction picture. Maybe adjusted the brightness, saturation, hue, etc. I did and can get no match to the coin you you pictured as what you received. It looks like a bait-n-switch case to me.

What......excuse me WHAT! In my opinion (see, I'm learning dad) there is no chance of these being the same coin. The one in the ebay pics is a beautiful example of the true DDO. I cannot check the markers in this pic but it is not a simple "poor mans DD. You can tell from the pics alone, but under 200X the comparison suggests that it is not even close to being the coin you received, IMHO. Compare the Ls in liberty for analysis. The ebay pic is a clean fully struck coin. The coin you received has an obvious strike on the horizontal face of the L almost flattening it and the DD is not obvious or there at all. Maybe a shipping error but certainly worth further pursuit with the seller and ebay if necessary. I also have a problem with any seller who states that what you are looking at is hard to see, so you cannot in theory trust your own eyes. You simply have to take what he says it is at face value. And, since you will not know what you are looking at, he will not allow returns. For what is worth, I am not going anywhere near this guys auctions if I know it is him. Just my thoughts. Jim

Thanks guys, he probally got away with the bait and switch with some other buyers, he has not replied back from the email I sent with the coin under 200X magnification. I am hoping he does what is right and sends the one in the photo or refunds my money. Like I said the sole reason for buying it was to photograph it and I know a thing or two on photographs.

Well ever since I emailed him a picture all blown up and high detail I have not heard from him, I even left him an out, told him that he might have inadvertently placed the wrong coin in the envelope. What do you guys think, start a paypal claim? I already have another one going right now on a never shipped coin, seller will not answer emails, yet still is selling on ebay. If it was an low dollar coin I would let it go, but $62 will buy a couple nice cents!

Start a claim with ebay first, they have an option on the dispute page for "Significantly Not as Described" and I think that qualifies. ebay will try to contact the seller and request he take care of things. If not, as long as you paid by paypal, and had it shipped to a verified address, you SHOULD be covered... Here is a link the dispute page you need at ebay.. http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/inr-s...process.html

Chris start your claim and always pay with a credit card when you buy from ebay. that way if paypal or ebay wont help you the just file a claim with your credit card. you will never get the raw end if you use your CC Gary

I went ahead and started the claim. I followed the directions on ebay. Gary- This time I did not use it, I usually do on anything over $100. I am trying to shy away from ebay but enjoy some of the "hidden gems" I find there. The only thing lately I have been buying there are rolls and varieties as they never have those at the local coin shows. I am 0 for 3 on ebay for the last 3 purchases, first one never sent the coin, second one is this one and the last one became a "no longer a registered user" after I paid. They say things happen in 3's so I should be good for awhile!
