Hello. I am new to this site and this is my first post. I have also posted it in the Identification section.

I hope you can help.

My elderly father in law has lost a box of old, rough-cast Afghan coins in a particularly nasty robbery. Some masked men broke down his front door, restrained him on his back on the floor and ransacked his house.

I am now trying to place a value on these for the loss adjuster. All my father in law can remember is that they were old when he acquired them before he left Kabul in the 1950s. Thankfully, some were left behind and I am posting a photograph. I have other photos if needed.

Any help you can give me in dating and/or valuing these would be much appreciated. He had a box full of them, approximately the size of a large match box.

Thank you. RK

You will need to post more clearer images of each coin. Can't tell much from your photo.

If you can give us clear photos of the front and back of each coin we might be able to help you and your father in law. There are many collectors and dealers here that would happily jump into action.

I think I see a jhar on the bottom middle, so it would be just a Jaipur copper. I think that one or two of the others might be Afghan or Persian civic coppers, but I just can't tell off the photo.
Pick up a copy of W.H. Valentine's "Modern Coins of the Muhammadan States" or the Standard Catalog of Coins South Asia (India) Edition. You can identify them out of there, otherwise I need better photos, front and back.
