Hi guys,

I am new to this forum, so hope I've found my way alright.
I need help getting a proper ID and value on this coin. It seems to say ANTONIUS PIUS AUG, but looks unlike all other types I've managed to find.
Please help me.

Thanks in advance

ANTONINVS PIVS AVG in this case makes it Caracalla.

Caracalla Denarius.
Minted in Rome. 203 AD.
ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, laureate draped bust right
PONT TR P VI COS, Roma standing left, holding Victory & reversed spear.

It is a coin of Caracalla (denarius ?)

Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius were two of the most 'beloved' emperors of alltime !
Quite a few successors adopted the names and wanted to be loved. Unfortunately most of them were 'swines' who did nothing to deserve the names or the love of the people !

BTW Elagabalus ("worse than Caligula") also adopted the name and can be difficult to distinguish from Caracalla. His grandmother in fact was trying to pass him off as being the son of Caracalla !
He wasn't

Thanks for the quick response guys, how can you tell this stuff?!

How would they think adopting the names would make them worthy?

Any idea on the value?

Thanks again

First one I believe is Constans and the second is certainly Claudius II (Gothicus) with a CONSECRATIO reverse meaning it was issued by his successor.

The Constans is probably a $5 coin and the Claudius is a very common posthumous issue so despite its rather good condition would probably fetch around $15.
