Hello there I'm not sure what forum I should post this on since I have already identified at least one of the coins as being from the qian dynasty and dating from the reign of Qian long(1736-1795)but what I am baffled about is why are these coins in this particular piece of art. I have seen nothing resembling this particular piece. Although the use of black lacquerware and mother of pearl inlay was widely used it was mostly used for vases, furniture etc. does anyone have any ideas about this piece of art?

Qianlong, cast 1 cash coins, issued 1736-96.
Would need to see the backs of the coins to tell you the mints.
Chinese coins were used pretty extensively in Indonesia for decorative arts. Your piece looks Indonesian, probably from Bali, Java or somewhere thereabouts.
