I was going through some of my mothers items and found an uncirculated roll of 1968S pennies. My brother asks me how much are these worth? Good question as graded coins run $12 to $60. I am wondering if it is worthwhile to send a few of the best (all are shinny red and brand new) to NGC or PCGS to determine which grade they are and if they are truly valuable. I own a number of slabbed coins but have never submitted coins directly and the cost is not clear to have 10-16 coins graded. Any suggestions?

When wanting to add pics and such, reply by clicking on the "Reply to Topic" spot on the TOP of the very first post.
When just replying text like I'm doing now just click on the LOWER tab like you did earlier.

The odds of these being high grade are quite poor.
Look for well made coins without any scratches. This date is always a little mushy looking because of worn hubs.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I doubt if you would break even. When you facter in the TPG charge the shipping, ebay or auction fees, and what all else. I would guess anything that sells for less than $20 is a net loss. It could even be higher. Add in the pain in the backside factor and you might just as well spend an evening making 1000 $1 bets at a roulette wheel. (with 35 to 1 payout on a roulette wheel with 38 numbers (1-36 and 0 and 00)it is the closest thing to impossible to be even after 1000 bets) So, you have to ask yourself, 'do I feel lucky?'

Was unable to get the picture to upload but trust me, the coins are uncirculated and shiny red and truly uncirculated. I doubt they would grade MS 67 or 68 since they would be worth hundreds but still wonder if any of them would grade MS 65 or 66 and be worth cost of grading. You question remains, what would it cost to have 5-10 of them graded?

Cost for basic ANACS is something like 20 each coin. Go to their site and look at the submission form for annexact price.
