I decided to put my 1916-D Mercury aside for the time being and try some of my other coins. I found the double eagle much easier to get into focus and was pleased with the quality of that image. Any feedback/suggestions on how to improve would be appreciated.

What kind of lighting were you using on the Lincoln? Were you using a tripod or some sort of stand? I have found that using an old milk carton with the bottom and top cut out works nice to diffuse the light. I kinda bounces around and lights up the coins nice without reflections.

I've seen the commercially available "coin domes" that do the same and have read about people who use the milk bottle approach. Superdave didn't seem to high on the diffuse lighting approach, but I will give it a try at some point.

I'm not big on it because I haven't learned it yet.

From what I've seen, though, it's a little tougher to get luster right under a dome than with direct lighting.
