Here is a scan of the coin...

Found-An-Ancient-Greek-Or-Roman-Coin-At-The-Beach.-Real?

I found it when I was walking on the beach. It buried under sand.

Is this thing real? If so, what is it? Any ideas what it might be worth?

thanks!

It is not an ancient coin, but rather it is very modern in manufacture. I do not know what it is besides that, though.

I agree, this one is modern. I'm not sure if its a copy of an ancient coin.

As Victor said, it's neither ancient, nor a coin. But it is in Greek; I've managed to translate most of the words.

On the "obverse" (the side with two figures), the lettering is deliberately in "old fashioned Greek style". The word on the left is ekecheiria, "sacred truce", the bottom word Olympia - clearly a reference to the truce called so the ancient Olympic Games could be held in peace. Don't know what the word on the right is, because I'm not sure what the second letter is supposed to be.

On the other side, the alphabet is more "modern looking". The phrase at the top is pagkosmia eirene, "worldwide peace". The phrase at the bottom is kale chronia, "happy new year".

Sounds to me like a good luck medal or souvenir sold at the new year.

Ah, found the mystery word: Iphitos, the ancient mythical king of Elis who is said to have instituted the ancient Olympics under orders from the Oracle at Delphi.
