Given the exciting find of Franklin's ship, the HMS Erebus, I wonder how long it will take to see it interpreted somehow on an RCM coin? If issued I would not be surprised to see the RCM consider innovative technologies in the coin's design. A hologram shifting from an ice packed Arctic ocean to the image of the ship at the sea bottom? Perhaps a mintage of 1845? Any thoughts?

I could definitely see that happening in the near future. The RCM would be blind to pass up an opportunity like this.

Just FYI: Back in 2000, the RCM issued a gold $100 coin to commemorate Franklin's expedition.

They finally found the Erebus?!

Pretty cool to hear about it as I had just finished reading a book about the Franklin Expedition (it's some pretty horrifying stuff).

Yes they found the Erebus in eleven meters of water, apparently fully preserved because of the cold water. Divers were expecting to find bodies but haven't as yet. If you search the CBC or Parks Canada sites you will find all sorts of details.
