I have been told (numerous times) by a number of members to make sure that I deal with a reputable dealer when buying coins.

To keep this thread on topic, when buying Ancient Roman or Greek coins, can anyone assist me in determining if either (or both) of the traders who trade as Lanz and/or Savoca (Germany) are worth my trust?

I did put this question on the World Coin Forum and despite almost 100 'reads' no-one answered my request.

As I am looking to purchase some Ancient Roman and Greek coins, then, I believe, this is the appropriate forum.

I look forward to hearing your views/experiences?

Thank-you, (in anticipation).

There was a recent post about a fake coin being sold by Lanz. However, this was an anomaly (and you can find similar instances, although infrequent, with most major auction houses).

Dr. Lanz is a respected numismatist and in general I trust coins from his organization. On the Lanz ebay site you'll find the "lesser" quality coins and periodically he has major auctions.

Lanz is reliable. I haven't dealt with the other. With Lanz I also know your also covered by German consumer law( much stronger than US consumer law)

Both are excellent dealers with fine reputations.
Additionally there are a few 'fine' sellers in Hispania who sell impressive amounts of semi cleaned coins.
They are often more attractive to those on a more restricted budget !
For some reason the Germans are more tolerant of coins which have undergone 'tooling'. I find that to be unpleasant !
