So this is the case, I was planning on adding some led battery remote controlled lights inside, then I need a background color for the base of the case? I want a color that will let the coins really pop! Ideas? An off white? Orange reddish?

Put some inert red velvet would be off the hook. Thats a great find. It does kind of say Attention Robbers! Smash in case of coins.

I loved that idea, but I noticed the coins being absorbed by deeper colors.

Appears to be all metal. That's good. Wood ones can release some organic gases that can seriously harm coins. And note that Ancientnoob used the word "inert". Keep that in mind for ANYTHING you put in the case.

I do agree with the last part of Anoob's comment. It is a risk keeping all your coins out in the open like that, and just gives a thief one more thing to swipe. Those are just my thoughts on the matter though. I just hope you at least have a good security system in place if you do plan on going ahead with this display.

I don't have room for something like this either, but with the lighting I would make the room!
As for background, it depends upon what you want to display. Silver is going to look great against any background, but the bronze coins will look lost against black or navy blue. I would stay away from orange, it is too vibrant and bounce colours in a way that you probably would not like. If I were you, I would take a handful of "change" to a local shop dealing with material, and chuck the lot onto a large swatch of cloth. See what the coins look like against the background. To cater for all coins, I would go for RED, not a dark burgundy, but a proper RED.
And please keep in mind comments from the others regarding wooden cabinets and the gasses that they give off which can seriously affect your coins over time.

Shop around online for archival storage supplies to use as background material. Things like velvet seem like a good idea but fabric shops are full of formaldehyde resin.
With a nice big case like that you could easily divide it into sections with different backgrounds for different coins.

The coins will be kept in airtight modular containers, plus I acquired a non toxic silica gel Canister. I planned on going to a place where they sell special bases and backgrounds that will not hurt the coin or plastic as well. I will put the coin against the choices, which I have yet to decide on.

Looks good! Tbh I rarely worry about thieves swipping stuff (and I live in a shady area of the city). If they make it in, and my dogs don't eat them alive before they call the cops to come save them... they've earned every penny.

What colour do the coin shops use to display their coins?

i was about to say watch out for the wood messing with the coins, but if they are in air tight containers I guess it wont matter. plus I know some isn't a problem...but I don't know what is ok and what isn't.
I've thought about this myself. but then, no one ever looks at my coins but me (and people online), so I've never went to the trouble.
anyway..that will be pretty cool. show pics one you get it all decked out please!
