I received a bank roll of 25 UNC 1966 silver dollars (loose in original bank bag), originally purchased that year by my grand parents as a 25 year wedding anniversary gift for my great grand parents. The coins were never disturbed or removed from the bank bag until I received them. The bank bag has deteriorated significantly over the years, so for now, I have removed the coins and placed in plastic tubes (but not before checking for small bead varieties)...and before anyone asks, no small bead varieties were found.

The condition and quality of most of the coins really stands out. Most of them are not junk silver IMO, but at the same time I question whether it's worth sending any to TPG for possible MS65/66/67 grades? I'm really not sure what to do with them at this point, but I don't have a particular need to keep them either. I'm leaning toward selling them and recycling those funds into coins I do want. But if I were to do so, I'd like to exploit any maximum value potential as possible. Any advice/thoughts?

Honestly, if you're not a dealer and/or don't need the money, hoard them for silver. There's not much that you can do with those outside of trade on the silver value and that will -- eventually -- go up.

Silver will eventually go up... course that might be after it goes down some more..

Look if you need or want the money.. you're going to get close to silver price for 'em as they are right now... if you're confident that they're 65's or better... it may be worth it to get them slabbed and sell them... but I think they would HAVE to be better than a 64 for it to be worth grading..

Perhaps show them to a few other people in your area perhaps to your LCS or a dealer nearby.. .and see what they think it will grade...

Best of luck

Thanks guys. It makes sense to hoard them. I'll still run them by a few LCSs to obtain secondary opinions on some of the higher grade ones, because I agree it isn't worth my while to certify unless it's over MS64. But even then, is there really a market for high MS grade 1966 dollars?

I'm sure someone out there would want them but whether you can get a premium high enough to make it worth while to grade them is another question.
