Hmmm, I don't know. Planchet appears to look much thinner from reverse photo (too bad no depth-angle photo available), but the planchet isn't a perfect shape. Even if it was a foreign planchet, I would think it would be a uniform planchet to start with, not something that looks like it emerged from the Roman empire. It's possible it's legit, but I'm leaning toward it being a basement job of sorts to fetch an artificial premium. Not something I'd ever make a gamble on purchasing. And where did the seller come up with that price anyway....?

lol..thats what it should look like.

Seems to have struck up fairly well for an extra thin planchet. The pics could be more clearer..kinda hard to say, wait for expert.

That is one of many that were struck on Fe-Ni alloy planchets. Coins were mostly struck on 5c and 25c, with scarcer 1c and 10c. Even though you can't see the date, it is part of the batch that got out in 2004. ALL of these are dated 2004P. They have to be either lacquered or protected in a dry environment, they are extremely prone to rusting due to their high iron content.

In short, it is an off-metal 25c struck at the RCM, but most likely had a helping hand...

Here is a 5-cent for sale:

I remember Harv Gamer of MJ Daniels selling these steel error coins at a couple of coin shows ~2005. If I remember correctly, he said the story was that they were found in Ballistic Bags sent from the Winnipeg Mint directly to Walmart in a rush order.
