Does anyone here collect commemorative die varieties? I understand that they usually do not add any premium to the commem. The commemorative die varieties are pretty common as fewer dies were used for these and a large percentage of coins will show those varieties. However, they still are interesting and make nice additions to collections.

I'm more of a collector of the history associated with commemorative coins vs. just the coins themselves. So, I concentrate on filling out my collection with items related to each coin vs. varieties of them.

I wish you the best with your variety hunts and hope you'll continue to share images of what you find.

My primary focus as a dedicated collector of classic silver commemorative has been at a type set level both MS and circulated.

As such I have not gained much knowledgeable of the commemorative die varieties available.

Generally aware that the Lafayette dollar is available in four varieties as a result of the hand-punched legends ... other than that I have not paid any attention to the topic.

Educate us ... show us what exists from your collection in commemorative die varieties ...

These are nice die varieties. Pilgrims also come with clashed dies; Bradfords arm/hand clashing visible in upper sails/mast; clashed letters near hull. The Pilgrim also has a nice "large hat" die variety where part of the hat brim was removed (possibly to remove clash marks) making the hat look too big for Bradford's head.

World's Columbian Exposition & California pacific Expo has several re-punched date varieties, Pan Pacific has re-punched mint mark varieties, and there are other doubled die varieties.

I have just recently become interested in early commemm die varieties. At a LCS last year I spotted a Pilgrim and liked the design; flipping it over there was the die break. The dealer wanted $250 for an MS-63 1920 pilgrim so I passed. But it piqued my interest and I started researching these. I still do not have many of these but I now look for them and was wondering if any other members had similiar interests.
