Does it matter the orientation of the edge inscription? If you take a $1 coin and lay it down so you can read the words then look at the coin from above should you always see the statue of liberty? If you look at the coin and see Jefferson on top is the inscription upside down making it unique? Or does it simply not matter?

It doesn't matter. ITs a 50-50 chance of which way the coin goes through the edge inscription machine. They are labeled Type A and Type B.
