1881 Five D. U.s Gold Coin - Does It Look Real To You?

chris06299 New Member Canada 14 Posts	Posted 10/12/2014 4:42 pm I picked up a 1881 U.S Gold Coin, I'm hoping I didn't get burned on it. It seems legit, and weighs 8.4g on my scale. Does anyone know what it may be worth if it's real? Report this Post to the Staff

SsuperDdave Moderator United States 23522 Posts	Posted 10/12/2014 6:32 pm Pics are a tad small to be sure, but I see nothing that panics me. Weight's a little heavy; should be 8.24 but that might be your scale. It's a common issue, the highest mintage of the With Motto type, and I'm guessing it to be AU-ish. Value probably approaches $400; it's about a $450 coin in an AU55 slab. Report this Post to the Staff
