Medieval Pillar of the Community 3772 Posts	Posted 10/15/2014 05:59 am This is Sear[ME]#3529 and it might be one of those fourree which were done by mint officials cheating the system. This is clearly a forgery, the obverse is Vespasian posthumous while the reverse shows Titus and Domitian (sorry for the image quality) a type from early in Vespasian's reign. The details are so clear that one has to suspect that whoever produced it got hold of original dies. Anyone else keeps fourees? Report this Post to the Staff

If they can cut dies in ancient times, they can also cut dies in renaissance or later times. Skilled die cutter needed either way. Obviously plated. MY opinion: Fouree, most probably contemporary. Certainly worthy of inclusion in any collection of Roman coins. Report this Post to the Staff
