Unpacking further boxes I came across a few coins which were not identified or fully attributed yet, including:

Was lucky to finally come across the type and properly identify/attribute them.

Denaro from Lucca from the period of Henry III,IV,V (1039-1125) of the HRE - Biaggi#1058.

Googling for "Biaggi 1058" one can find some with (nearly) complete inscription.

I've frequently seen coins of Lucca, Italy looking like this, crudely struck and barely readable with cruciform LVCA lettering in the obverse centre. I assume these are a couple more of the same. I think a big hoard of them came onto the market back in the 1980s; they were going real cheap back then, a few dollars each, provided you didn't need to own a coin you could actually read.

'Sap', you must have a good memory. Picked them up cheaply with another few unattributed old coins from a dealer who wanted to get rid of them.

It was easy for me to remember - I bought one as a young collector off M.R. Roberts, back in the 1980s when they were one of the biggest and most visible mail-order dealerships in the country. It was not only my first "mediaeval" coin, but the only mediaeval coin I've ever "upgraded" back out of my collection again.

As per M.R.Roberts, I spent quite a few hours there going through junk boxes and had quite some good finds. Bob has an extensive knowledge of Commonwealth Coinage and Tokens (especially Australian and British), luckily (for collectors) his knowledge does not extend that much into other numismatic fields so that bargains could be had for not (fully) attributed coins. Not sure I got those from him though, there are/were quite a few coin dealers in Sydney, who had their specialty but were not so versed with other fields.

Thanks David.
While I enjoy to buy fully attributed coins (if they are interesting and affordable), obtaining some unidentified (or poorly attributed) ones is part of the fun of collecting older coins. Even the frustration of having had the wrong guess is part of the game.
