I reshot an IHC variety I have--not with my dSLR, but with my Nikon AW110 underwater camera (16mpx)--just to see how well it does. The top picture was taken with my Canon SD780IS (10mpx). Both images had similar lighting and a similar amount of sharpening applied. Personally, I like the picture by the Nikon better, as it resolves the MPDs a little more.

This is a fun variety--there are a lot of MPDs in the denticles!

Yeah, very cool variety. For those that like digits in the dents, it is among the best. These are suppose to be rare, but I've found 3, which makes me skeptical. But then again I found all three known specimens of a 1906 RPD, so coin hunting can be very strange. In any regard, it should be a very, very exiting find and a must have for IHC variety collectors. Thanks for sharing DV. Great pics. There are so many MPDs on this coin, that you can't capture them all from the same lighting angle. It seems they continue to pop out as you rotate the coin under light.

Wow--well done! I found this one unattributed with a pretty bad ebay picture too!

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken that is how I found each of mine. Good eye, DV!

Here's a new shot of the same coin, showing the level of detail that a dSLR can capture--with less noise and artifacts.
The low lighting angle is necessary to pick up detail in the denticles. With less noise, you can see more MPDs.

DV, at my age I guess I don't have the inclination to become skilled at coin photography but I must say I am really impressed with the quality, clarity and detail of your photos. I love the way the markers for the varieties stand out for easy identification. I really look forward to your posts on IHC and FE varieties.

Thanks! I do like how I don't really need to add arrows to this shot.
Upgrading from a cheap point-shoot to a dSLR has really improved the images.
