47P7 interesting post I would assume is what Tfred is referring to. Kooks I know you WANT this note to be a real error but to get it expertised properly just send in to the certification service, that way you will know for sure what you have. I for one will buy you a beer if it is!

Thanks. Good advice. Not sure it's worth it even though it's a devils face. Of course I want it to be an error, and it sure looks like one..

Pcific, toatally respecting your opinion, but I strongly believe you are not correct. I had a chat with Steven at Banknote certification some time ago. He said until he has seen a few of them and presently will not certify them as a error until someone can proof otherwise that it is. He just does not know. I do not blame him. Here is a suggestion: perhaps YOU should do what you suggested and let us know the result with before and after pictures. On the other hand, please use common sense and think, or simply try what ammonia will do! or some other chemical. Just try it. also, the obverse side is NOT another color. It is the proper color, suggesting that it only happened during the Press set up and run in. And, I am sure you know, merchants sometime rub the serial numbers to see if the ink stays on or smears. And, if you have dirty fingers doing the rubbing, it will show! Ok, How do you then explain other banknote with obviously wrong colored sides. Exactly the same way as above. The Press men on the printing presses were not exactly awake. perhaps "forgot to check" as their buddy needs a rarity. Please evaluate this image and comment on it. it is my blue bill enlarged to see details, next to a normal bill. still have the notion of kitchen, basement or whatever post print treatment? think again and compare, look for a printing or rubbing or chemical influx. perfect print job!

when I see the OP note in a holder I buy !! not until then ! There are several great beer joints here! Also why would I ruin a perfectly good 1954 banknote to experiment on ? It was ok fifty years ago when it was face value. You wouldn't believe the stuff that came out of both Moms washing and my science class. A paint brush and ammonia worked wonders on the twos especially! Did you know that the 1954 twos are all Brown backs ? !!!!!

you are trying to change the subject here. we are on to the BLUE $1. Not the brown $ 2. If you wish, I send you a perfectly 1954 $ 1 note to experiment on! I think I only have one all green one. Just PM me your address and it is yours. BUT you do the experiment and post before and after Pictures. Hey it could be fun, and fun is always good. AND you could discredit all the other "chemical and bleaching" believers,

You completely missed the point on the twos. Those are the notes that were the easiest to turn into so called "errors". As I said previously get the OP note in a holder and I buy beer ! I never commented on YOUR note 47P7 because You should show the whole note to us. I will then say what I think! Please post FRONT and BACK. Also yes it was fun all those years ago doing science experiments on coins and notes................till I got caught doing the mercury trick on pennies ! Ouch ! The teacher was NOT happy! !!!!!!!!!

did the merc eat a hole in it? I posted the enlargement to see details clearly and to reject any suggestions of the having experienced any alterations with anything. If there would have been external manipulation, you would see it without any magnifier. I need to load the complete note first. will do it later today as I have to go on a Garbage run before the bears break in to get it.. we do not have the conveniences as you Large City folks do. So, check back tonight.

Forget that!!
47p7 and pacific... you both in winnipeg I will buy both of you a beer so long as I can sit and listen to you talk to each other.. I figure that's a cheap price to pay for education and entertainment!!
Now as far as this note or any other from this series is concerned... I have on two different occasions been presented with notes that either had missing serial numbers on it or some differences in colour... both notes were far from UNC.. Not being an expert on both occassions I took each note to a collegue ... both times he wasn't convinced it was a legitimate error...
He basically stated unless it's UNC.. there's a good chance the note has been doctored..
Now 47P7... what you state could definetely be fact and may very well be the case for your note.. the only problem is getting them certified... and I feel the reason for that is b/c the notes that have been doctored ended up looking pretty darn close to the real deal. So it's kind of a catch 22... unless the note would grade UNC with all parts of the note being intact like the embossing, you can't get the note certified... because there's too many fakes that have been produced to look exactly the same.
Your explanation is plausible... and pacific is also right to hold any reservations until it can be certified....
I say... if there is to be a stand off.... c'mon down to Winnipeg...I'll provide the beer :D

First of all, thank you for inviting Pacific and myself to come to Winnipeg. I assume you will have e-tickets waiting for us at the WestJet counter? All we have left is to agree on a date. Right? Just love Winnipeg in January. Grrrrrrrrr.! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am not sure why you need a note to be UNC to determine if it is fake or altered or not. Once a note is printed, any alteration, if any took place, can be recognized by an expert who understands how printing works. And, there is no embossing on these banknotes. They are printed. I am not sure if the Serial numbers are printed with special ink, but somehow I do not think so. in 1953/54, Not. A missing serial number? easy, if you understand how printing works. can be "missed" on then first section on the first sheet. But then it is usually more than one that will be missed and that sheet "should have" been rejected and destroyed. But again, printers are humans. Today such a error could logically not happen as each printed number is being read by sensors and verified. Way back, I believe, Serial numbers on notes and stock certs were sometimes printed as a last and separate run to make sure everything is perfect. By printing the serial numbers last as a separate run, it validated the banknotes. Just a few side questions for you guys here: have you ever heard of, or seen Stamps with off color or only partly printed? Have you ever heard of seen Stamps with a printing error? Have you ever seen identical banknotes where the color is noticeably different from one to next? Have you ever seen a banknote with fading colors? Have you ever seen a real printing- error banknote? If so, what was the error? If you answered only one with a yes, did you then think that it has to be a fake or been doctored with? Just for the fun of it, I will send my note to be certified that it is not a fake and I will ask the TPG to note that one side appears to be blue in color and to see if he can discuss the issue with a experienced (old time) Printing person. And here is my Note each side compared with another 1954 note:
