Accusing someone of selling fake coins in a public forum without definitive proof is not a good idea.

Of course it's a scam.

Just like the guy mentioned on another thread selling original BU Morgan dollar rolls from the Carson City Bullion & Exchange Bank.

These guys do it because there is money to be made. They'll keep doing it until 1) ebay puts a stop to it (highly doubtful); 2) they get arrested for fraud (highly doubtful); or 3) some buyer gets burned so bad they end up taking up matters In their own hands and pays the Seller a visit.

Nice research DVCollector.

Quote:
I looked at the pics (yes, crappy pics) and saw no obvious issues with the coins. Just because a seller has a bunch of an item doesn't mean that they are fake/altered...it just means he has a bunch of them.

There is obvious issues with the coins to those who know a bit about them and the die markers required to be present.

There is definite proof, the seller is showing us a photos of fake coins. Pictures speak a thous......

I wonder if the fact the seller is from Puerto Rico makes it easier or harder to stop them. Probably a moot point though. It takes two to tango.

The documentation I've turned up--rather easily I might add--speaks for itself.

No need to "wonder"..the auctions say where the item is located..

Quote:

Item location:
Ponce, PR, Puerto Rico

It doesn't matter where the item is shipped from. If buyers report items as altered or "SNAD" (Significantly not as described) the seller will have a hit and a couple of these hits will get them banished from ebay.

This seller has been selling since 2006 and has a 100% feedback from over 2000 transactions. "Top rated Seller". I just find it hard to believe that ALL the buyers are clueless and blind but maybe they are.

Would I buy one from this dude? Absolutely not...but not because of the auction presented. This one would be Captain Obvious to me...just a tad buffed over the MM..

Really not a lot you or anyone can do about such things. Yes you can complain to ebay, the Federal government, the news media but at the end, such people will continue with the same stuff. Once in a while some of those are arrested and fined. Then back to what they were doing. Think of all the fakes coming in from China and other countries. Anyone stopping them? And it's not just coins. Have you gone to a flea market lately? Almost anything and everything is being sold there that is just not real. And seldom any taxes either.
Coins are a rather easy target for people that mess with them. Some erase one of the legs on Indian Head Nickels. Many add letters for Mint marks such as 1916D Dimes.
I worry more about what is in my toothpaste than those fake coins.

Hummm.....I think Foxwoods Man stumbled on something. Seller radiocheck from Ponce, Puerto Rico. I'm sure they aren't related to tubecheck from Ponce, Puerto Rice, even though they sell similar messed with 1922 no Ds

Just more grist for the mill. Yea, not much to do about it but I'm a firm believer about, "what goes around..
