I've been watching this seller for maybe 6 months (or more,) and IMO he's found a way to grind the D off of a 1922 D, and make the coins look aged. Unless he found a roll of them on a shipwreck somewhere, all of his coins are fake, and have the same look. They aren't even what he describes. The current one is described as a 'weak reverse,' and the coin clearly has a strong reverse. I realize I might just be hoping against hope, and 'caveat emptor' is probably the only solution, but I've watched this go on for a while now and every time another one of his altered coins pop up, my blood boils a little. I've reported to ebay a few times, and messaged the seller a few times, and all I get is "thanks, have a nice day." Just my rant, he's found a nasty niche to exploit and probably nothing can be done. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1922-NO-D-D...S:SS:US:3160

There are many sellers like this on ebay. All we have to do is not buy from them and help others to not as well.

Unfortunately Ed, the seller and the host are indifferent to your cause so long as there is money to be had. What a cruddy looking coin if indeed it was ever the real deal. And you can't save every person from a bad spend every chance either. I'm sure your fellow CCF members appreciate your posts pointing out the shaky specimens for sale. At least we might have a fighting chance at keeping our bucks in our pockets.
And think of all the entertainment you've brought us...always fun to see what nasty item you've uncovered during your hunts!

There appears to be over 50 1922 Lincoln sales on the first 5 pages of feedback....I stopped counting at that point

No wonder the 1922-D is getting hard to find.

I'm not paying 90-100, just to give negative feedback.

I love 1922 no Ds, but I'd gladly rescue the hoard of 22-Ds that he is destroying and give them a good home.

I'm surprised he has a return policy. Most of these con-men don't.

Wow that's messed up what he is doing with that 1922 over and over and over and over again. And ebay doesn't give a darn about it. Money talks and b.s. runs a marathon lads.

Sometimes I wonder if there aren't buyers that just want to "fill that empty hole" and have a don't ask...don't tell attitude with these expensive key coins?

Quote: Sometimes I wonder if there aren't buyers that just want to "fill that empty hole" That empty hole should not even be in the album/folder because it technically is an error not a variety. There are laws that prohibit the alteration of coins for a profit. The difficult part is proving he is the one actually altering those cents.

If ebay dont do anything, and being an offense, shouldn't it be reported to the police or appropriate authority

I looked at the last bunch of his '22 sales and all buyers seem satisfied.
I looked at the pics (yes, crappy pics) and saw no obvious issues with the coins. Just because a seller has a bunch of an item doesn't mean that they are fake/altered...it just means he has a bunch of them.
Until a buyer does a better exam and returns the coin with comment then I REALLY doubt an outside party will get far.
He has been selling them for a LONG time and I would guess that someone would have submitted ONE of those MANY 22's for grading. They are quite a few that sold near $600. I doubt those sales were just to "fill a hole"...all gave good feedback
100% feedback over 2200 transactions....I doubt that ALL the buyers are clueless

Quote: IMO he's found a way to grind the D off of a 1922 D, and make the coins look aged...and have the same look. Just speaking for myself, it doesn't require much expertise in LWCs to notice these coins have a similarly suspicious appearance--an almost sanded-down and retoned "look" to the date area and odd color throughout. But more importantly--backtracking their feedback as a buyer led me to no less than six purchases of 22-Ds. So he buys 22-Ds, but sells 22s w/o mintmarks--what's going on here is a no-brainer. ~15 minutes of research turned up these purchases of 22-Ds. I'm sure I could find more matches with an exhaustive search 221549486349291245340830161427629671111466332441131282844071 (hidden best offer, cross-reference here) 390889314428 (another "hidden" best offer (nice try), cf. here) Quote: 100% feedback over 2200 transactions....I doubt that ALL the buyers are clueless But I also doubt that rating tells the whole story. People don't always find out they've been scammed and/or they refuse to admit it...
