I'm hoping this will turn out to bee one of those amazing rare valuable finds lol. When they pulled the penny from circulation I went to the bank and bought $5000.00 worth and I've been sorting them out and selling them by the roll on ebay. Today I pulled out another box and started looking, and found this little gem. I've gotten a blank planchette before, and I've gotten quite a few clipped planchettes....but never a combination of both. I did a search on ebay.ca and .com, as well as a google search and came up empty. Could I possibly have the first clipped blank planchette? Whats everyones thoughts?

Can you post some pictures of it from the side? I'm not so sure it's a clip.

These are about as good as I can get. Its not fully clipped, I think more so rolled over would be a better term. It is the exact same arc as another penny....im thinking somehow in the process when it was done with the rimming and being ejected from the press it was barely caught, not enough to be a full clip, but enough to catch it and roll the coin a bit.

Whatever the cause it happened after the rimming process. Not a clip. It was struck with that much offset IMO.

ya it is not a clip, it could be but it doesn't look like one! interesting, it could be a partial clip. You could ask 5000 but it is only worth what someone is going to pa for it. very interesting though!

Not a clip----Clips are part of the planchet making process. That being said, I think your error is very rare indeed-----how did the other coin manage to get into the stamping process and interfere with your planchet ?

This is a "striking clip" on a blank. The error is made in the coining press when two blanks are struck at the same time. It's pretty hard to find.

I think there is a listing for this kind of error in Herbert's error coin manual.

..that pretty much tells the story.
It may have been resting slightly overlapping another planchet but either way I'm sure I can see some beads in the arch of the pinch. IMO

If I was an error collector I would think $100.00 bucks would seem right.

Here is a similar coin in my collection.

Amazing-Penny-Find!

I don't know what the value would be today. I paid $31 in the year 2003.
