Japanese error coins by far are not common. gxseries Pillar of the Community Australia 3831 Posts	Posted 10/26/2014 7:55 pm Please look at your photos again. It is not impossible to hammer just the edge of the coin. Your photos show that it is only the edge that is affected and it is hammered in one direction - second last photo. This cannot happen during mint operation. As of why this is done, who knows - maybe someone wanted to make this into a jewellery. bungle Valued Member Japan 349 Posts	Posted 10/27/2014 12:20 pm The thickness of 10 yen coins is 1.5mm at the edge. After a few decades of circulation they get thinner, 1.2mm is not unreasonable. I just weighed 3 coins at random, one of them weighs exactly 4.50g. Then I measured the thickness in fields. 1.2mm. It is dated 1954, and your coin is newer, dated 1981. The edge is pressed down from the obverse side because that side looks better. It could be meant for a coin concho, or a button for example. mass Valued Member Jordan 78 Posts	Posted 11/01/2014 6:42 pm Thank you guys I do not want just a guess we want a logical scientific analysis I do not care their rarity and valuation If you look at the first image there is no separator or cracks between the inner ring and the edge and can not make like this without cracks and the Inner frame in the same measurement.
