Hello all. I am a long time lurker but this is my first post. I was just at a local coin show and I bought this 1878 Morgan dollar 8TF for $20. For kicks, I figured that would try and figure which VAM it was.

As it turns out, I am a bit stumped, even after going to VAMworld.com. I can describe the coin in the following way.

It is dark. I can emphasize this enough.
All of 1878 is doubled and the last eight is meaningfully shifted west.
The stars on both sides of 1878 are doubled and/or trippled.

I took a few different pictures with my android phone and tablet which are posted here. This is the best that I can get with what I have.

I would greatly appreciate any opinions as to which VAM it is.
Thanks in advance.

The key to attributing 1878 8TF's is the junction between wings and body. The combination of small feathers on each side differs with each die, and although a few dies were used more than once you can narrow the field down to two or three possible VAMs with just that feature. Dave has done so - V18, 19 and 20 look very similar and I think he's seeing one or the other of them in the big round feather at the bottom of the eagle's left (viewer's right) wing.

I should have elaborated a bit on my previous post above. Your coin appears to be an A2/A1 reverse and I can't tell from the photo posted if it's the a, b or c. All three are similar and paired with an obverse die that exhibits wild date doubling. Post close ups of the areas SsuperDdave mentioned if you would like a second & third eye on it.

I was able to get some better photos (thanks to my daughter).

Most of the PUPs were inconclusive in my view but it seems like I may have the VAM-14.18 Doubled Eyelid.

I have included more photos and I would appreciate any further thoughts that you may have.

Enjoy the additional pictures and let me know if you agree with my opinion.

I'm still at 18, 19 or 20. Sorry, but your coin is definitely not the A1C reverse.
