Found this while rolling through a box. Looks like an RPM to the N/NW, but have not found this type anywhere. I have an old version of the Jefferson RPM book. Any idea as to the value? BTW this is my first post!! I may have many I restarted collecting.

Edit your topic name instead of double posting please.

About the coin- looks like a possible RPM, might be PMD though.

I hope it's an RPM since you're a very welcomed CCF newbie deserving of some good fortune but a much closer photo could definitely assist us to say for sure.

If you want to find out more on mint mark macro shot tips, I'd suggest checking out the photography forum by clicking on:

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=81

In case you are unaware, CCF allows one to sort any forum having multiple threads under it.

In the case of the very popular photography forum, for example, I placed a partial screen shot of a drop-down box located on the far left side of the page displaying the available options to choose when performing a sort:

1948-S-Jefferson-RPM?

I personally almost always choose 'all topics', 'descending, and one of the items within the expanded drop-down box on the left.

By enacting these helpful sorting tasks the end results produce a list in descending order, for instance, based upon the number of views per thread if that is what one selects.

The very most popular topics within CCF discussing various aspects of coin photography, like macro photos of mint marks, are very helpful to assist in eluding the need to reinvent the wheel on improving mint mark macro shots, for example.

I personally did much work on the 'USB Microscope Photographing Coins' thread located at

https://goccf.com/t/88598

Many shots and tips of taking close-ups of mint marks exist in this appropriate thread.

best of luck,

A little closer view would be nice? It kind of looks like a lamination that is coming off from the image?

I believe it lacks the trumpet tail marker for '48.

Is this area loose? It looks like the whole mint mark area has moved with a lamination?

Actually the secondary mint mark looks pretty well struck from the microscope I use.

It is the first mint mark that I'm concerned about. Note how the secondary is smaller than the lower one? I see what may be a layer of lamination on the the one. Looks like a section that is loose in that area. I've seen a piece of lamination that has moved before on a nickel.

Yours looks like a large piece that moved south?

OK cool. I went to a coin dealer I am familiar with. Just found it where he moved his shop to. He recommended I send it to one of the guys from Coneca to take a look. Since I live in Illinois. There is a member who reviews errors and varieties out of Rock Island, IL. BTW Fioti, I went to school with a Tom Fioti in Lombard. Any relation?
