Went to a collector show this Saturday, got to meet coin community forum's very own tfred and score some more Maritime exo!

I picked up a loyalist days Trade dollar from 1984. St.John has a long running line of Trade dollars but a lot of smaller communities in New Brunswick only put out dollars for that year since it was our 200 anniversary. The obverse of the dollar has the 200 anniversary symbol.

I also picked up a wooden nickel to be used at a St. john coin show. It features a loyalist (common St.John exonumia theme). The nickel is dated 1967 and features the Canadian Centennial symbol on the reverse. The symbol is 11 triangles forming a maple leaf, 10 for the provinces and 1 for our territories.

I am uploading (bad) pictures with lapel pins to reinforce the symbols. What do you guys think? Any pieces you want to share?

I like the wooden nickel. Coin show and centennial, nice.

A little info on the Saint John Coin Club wood: there were 200 issued. The earliest example seems to be from 1966, again 200 issued. They are similar in appearance except the '67 has the Centennial logo, the '66 and subsequent years a "coin show" reverse. I have one of the '67s, but no '66. They aren't easy to come by.

I can't tell much about the Trade dollar from the pics, but it's very shiny! Any chance it's a silver version?

Oh, and a note about your thread title - if you spell it "St. John" instead of "Saint John," you'll get blasted locally (I'm speaking from experience) LOL.

Really? I know to NEVER call it St. John'S.
The wood was in a junk bin and they guy said 200 but I thought he was just giving me a pitch. I believe he was in the Saint John coin club.

No, it is the cupro-nickel version. Do you know how long the Saint John's have tokens go for? I bought the trade token book but it only goes up to '85ish. I want to turn my attention to Saint John next. Coin show in March I plan to attended.

You know chequer I have to go hunting for the '66 now, eh?

'87 is the latest I know of for Saint John Trade dollars, but I haven't really checked for anything recent. If you find a '66, get two!
